Safeguarding & Prevent

Falcons School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All pupils, regardless of age, special needs or disability, racial/cultural heritage, religious belief or sexual orientation have the right to be protected from all types of harm and abuse. Our safeguarding policy forms a fundamental part of our approach to providing excellent pastoral care to all pupils.

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mr James Kelly (Assistant Head Pastoral). The Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads are Mrs Lucy Price (Deputy Head) and Miss Jessica Montgomery (Head of Early Years).

Prevent

From 1st July 2015 all schools are subject to a duty under Section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, in that they must have ‘due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.’ This duty is known as the Prevent Duty for schools and was updated in December 2023.

As part of our safeguarding duties at Falcons School, we plan a rigorous PSHE curriculum which develops pupils’ resilience and understanding of safe and healthy relationships. Alongside our promotion of the Fundamental British Values (democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and cultures), we help build pupils’ understanding of potential radicalization and extremism scenarios and how to behave in these circumstances.

All of our staff are trained in the Prevent Duty and are aware of how to identify pupils who are potentially at risk of radicalisation or extremism. They know how to follow the school safeguarding policy accordingly in these circumstances.
