Prevent

From 1st July 2015 all schools are subject to a duty under Section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, in that they must have ‘due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.’ This duty is known as the Prevent Duty for schools.

As part of our safeguarding duties at Falcons School for Girls, we plan a rigorous PSHE curriculum which develops the girls’ resilience and understanding of safe and healthy relationships. Alongside our promotion of the Fundamental British Values (democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and cultures), we help build girls’ understanding of potential radicalization and extremism scenarios and how to behave in these circumstances.

All of our staff are trained in the Prevent Duty and are aware of how to identify pupils who are potentially at risk of radicalisation or extremism. They know how to follow the school safeguarding policy accordingly in these circumstances.
