The Years 5 and 6 running squad were delighted to have the opportunity at last to run in a live event – the Wandsworth Cross Country! After taking part in several virtual races, it was great to get out and race against other schools! The Falcons pupils arrived in good time and walked the course to see the distance that they would run. They warmed up, stretched and had a team talk.
Before we knew it, the Year 5 boys’ race had started and the Year 5 girls knew they would be next. All the pupils were nervous and excited but ran a confident and well-paced race. They all completed the course and—after recovering—said that they really enjoyed the experience.
Year 6 were raring to go and on the start line early. It seemed like an age passed before the race started but they were focused and waited patiently, determined to make a good start on the sound of the horn. The pupils ran a fast race and were positioned well throughout, putting their all into it and no doubt happy to see the finish line!
Miss Wright and myself were in awe of the effort pupils put into their races and the great support pupils had for each other. It was a real celebration of sporting talent and the girls were great ambassadors for the school. I’m proud to announce that overall, Falcons Girls placed 3rd out of 18 schools!
A further congratulations to one of our Year 6 pupils who has been selected to represent Wandsworth borough in the London Youth Games cross country later this month. I am delighted to see our girls getting recognition for their hard work and commitment to running. We wish her well for the event! – Miss Walters, PE and Games Lead
