Hats On For World Book Day

Last week, we marked World Book Day with a week of fun-filled activities to draw remote learning to a close.

In line with the national theme, ‘Share A Story’, for this year’s celebrations, older children in Key Stage 2 took part in a virtual reading session with their lower school peers, an annual Peregrines and Falcons tradition for World Book Day. Teachers also got involved in a ‘pass the story’, piecing together their own audiobook for A Tale of Two Feathers.

On World Book Day itself, the school embraced their own theme of hats, ensuring the events were engaging for pupils learning both at school and home. Pupils and staff donned their favourite headwear from famous titles including The Cat in the Hat, Mary Poppins and Room On The Broom, resulting in an eclectic mix of colours and styles throughout the school.

Ms Salama, English Lead, commented: “At Falcons School for Girls we motivate our pupils to develop a love of reading, a fundamental step to building a broader vocabulary and helping to enhance listening and understanding. For this major focus, we provide the children with a range of opportunities such as reading huddles and weekly objectives, helping them to enhance their learning pathway in a fun environment.

The girls have enjoyed sharing favourite stories and reading to each other, activities which they will continue with throughout the year.”
