Pupils From Falcons School for Girls Produce Crucial PPE

Falcons School for Girls has joined forces with other local schools to meet the shortfall of personal protective equipment (PPE), with pupils collectively creating over 2,000 visors for those working tirelessly throughout the coronavirus outbreak.

Children put their D&T skills to the test alongside other pupils, including children from sister school, Falcons Boys, who initially started to construct and assemble visors for Ealing hospital, following an urgent request from a parent at the school who is part of the ICU team there.

Families of both current and past pupils transformed areas of their homes into PPE production lines, ordering in the resources required online and working throughout their spare time in the Easter Holidays to create the vital protective equipment for those who are in critical need. Visors have been donated to frontline health staff at Kingston Hospital, Ealing Hospital’s ICU, Northwick Park and The Royal London Hospital.

Diana Hiller, our Drama Lead, who led the project for Falcons School for Girls commented: “I became involved in the project as it seemed like a great way to use our time and resources to help with the lack of PPE, in a way that was manageable by many families at home; and as we had contacts in local hospitals through parents in our school, we knew that the visors would go directly to the Covid-19 ICU teams who desperately needed them.

“The generous response from parents and children has been remarkable, and their desire to support and protect our local NHS workers has touched staff across the hospitals. It’s been a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with other schools within the Alpha Plus Group and beyond – Durston House for Royal London, Ealing and Northwick Park and Tower House for Kingston Hospital. A real team effort from the heart of the community, it has been a direct way to show our thanks to those who are putting their lives at risk to save others.”
