Year 5 Stay Afloat In Science

This week in Geography, Year 4 worked in groups to create posters on the Water Cycle. They were very creative with coloured paper, felt tips and pencils to demonstrate how the cycle works. Next week, they will present their posters to their peers. Well done to all the girls for their collaborative efforts, which resulted in some fantastic pieces of work.

On Tuesday, Nursery went on a visit to the local pet shop. After the children posted their pet survey to the school a couple of weeks ago, staff indicated what pets they had and what they would like in the future. To develop the pupils’ understanding of what it’s like to own a pet, Mucky Pups was the perfect place to go.

Inside, the children got to see the food, toys and supplies that are needed to look after a pet, from rabbits and guinea pigs to cats, dogs and birds.

They were even lucky enough to get to stroke Billy, a local dog who had come in for a haircut. The boys and girls were gentle with their new furry friend, despite being very excited!

This week in Science, the Year 5 girls were challenged to make a boat out of items that they found around the house. The boat had to be able to float and fit into the sink in the science lab. The test was then to see how much weight it could hold before it sank. Some boats had 5kg in them and were still afloat. There will be a final between 5D and 5K later in the term.
