Year 2 Lion Talk A Roaring Success

We were privileged to have Dr Marshall in today to share her experiences and knowledge of lions living in Zimbabwe. She let Year 1 and 2 explore endangered animals around the world and then talked about her uncle’s farm and one particular lion pride, that he has dedicated his life to support. It was a roaring success and the girls commented:

“I learnt that the mummy lion does the hunting and not the daddy!”

“I learnt that lions can be released back into the wild and this is best for them.”

“I learnt that the hyena is an enemy of the lion.”

Year 2 were so inspired that they may go on to sponsor some endangered animals.

On Tuesday, Year 4 went to visit Tate Britain to see themselves featuring in the Steve McQueen Year 3 exhibition. Last year, as Year 3 pupils, the class, including Mr McCulloch and Miss Diaz had their photograph taken by a team of specially trained Tate photographers.

Along with 3000 other Year 3 classes, their photo was created into a single large-scale installation, capturing tens of thousands of Year 3 pupils. On their visit to Tate Britain, Year 4 got the opportunity to see their photograph up close in a dedicated learning space in the gallery. They also took part in activities that explored the exhibition’s themes, such as reflecting on who they are and their future. When the exhibition concludes in May, Year 4’s picture will be returned to the school.

Years 4-6 pupils were very excited to be participating in their first Cross Country for 2020, which was Year 4’s first Cross country event ever.

On arrival, the girls walked the course to get a feel for the challenge ahead of them. I was pleased to hear they all felt ready and prepared. While there were tests along the way, all the girls showed resilience and persevered to the end. The Falcons group ran well on the day and completed the course with a smile on their face. Congratulations to one of our pupils, who achieved 2nd in her race too!
