On Wednesday, four pupils—two from Year 5 and two from Year 6—took part in the National Young Mathematicians’ Award. The competition is run by Explore Learning and the NRICH project at the University of Cambridge. We were joined by other local schools to take part in ‘The Team Challenge’, which hundreds of schools across the UK take part in. We had to tackle a never-before-seen problem created by the NRICH project at the University of Cambridge. The task involved us using problem solving skills, teamwork, perseverance and mathematical reasoning. We all had a fantastic time applying our maths knowledge and look forward to hearing the results.

We were very pleased to receive a visit from Perform on Wednesday 15th January. The children had a wonderful time exploring the theme of ‘Around The World’, using drama, dance and singing to help develop their confidence, concentration and social skills. To complement the workshop, there is a free educational app for iPhones and iPads based around the theme of Around The World. It contains fun games, creative tasks and videos of the themed songs and dances.

There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing choices.

The rain did not stop us this week! We had a very exciting Forest School session in the rain making our own music. We placed different pots and pans throughout the woodland area and listened to the sounds we hear as the drops fall. They made the most amazing sounds! We experimented by placing the pots under trees, where the bigger drops fell and the sound was deep and booming. We then placed them in the open rain where the drops were softer, making softer sounding taps.
