A large number of pupils from Years 1 to Year 6 have been highly commended for their poetry, in the recent, national ‘Young Writers’ competition.
A number of pupils entered the established ‘Young Writers’ Poetry Wonderland’ competition, which is currently celebrating its 27th year. An excess of 20,000 entries in total were submitted to the competition, with an impressive 59 poems by children from Falcons School for Girls securing a much-coveted place for publication.
Pupils perfected their rhymes and verses after they were tasked with creating a strong poem using their imagination and creativity, not forgetting to take into account expression, originality and use of language.
The hotly-anticipated book ‘Poetry Wonderland – Poets from South London’ will be published on 30th June containing work from children at the school.
Mrs Williams-Ryan, Headmistress commented: “Poetry Wonderland certainly captured the imaginations of our young writers and they had great fun learning during this project.
“Encouraging our pupils to express their creativity is important to us here at Falcons School for Girls, while also motivating them to be academically ambitious. We are delighted that the work of our children is being recognised in this competitive challenge”.
