Pupils from Years 5 and 6 embarked on Falcons’ first three-day choir tour to Belgium, in conjunction with our brother school, Falcons School for Boys on Friday 23rd March.
The excited pupils traveled across the Channel for the musical and historical trip, and were welcomed to the city of Bruges with a cruise along the canal to acclimatise to their picturesque surroundings.
The budding young singers performed at a home for the elderly and hosted a concert at the impressive Church of Our Lady.
The girls spent time learning the history of the country with visits to key museums such as Memorial Museum Passchendaele and In Flanders Fields. The curious pupils also visited the well-known Tyne Cot Cemetery, Langemark Cemetery and had a guided tour of the Bayernwald Trenches.
A significant and much-valued aspect of the tour was attending the renowned Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate, a moving ceremony which has become part of the daily life in Ypres.
Head of Music Miss Madeleine Lang commented: “The tour was a huge success and a fantastic experience for our girls who were incredibly excited to be showcasing their talent in the historical location.”
“The visit to Belgium was an educational trip that provided the perfect opportunity for our children’s learning to be enhanced, with a particular focus on history.”
