Bookworms at Falcons School for Girls have raised an impressive £1,700 for the school’s partner charity, FiSH Neighbourhood Care.
The school hosted a ‘Pyjama Readathon’ in an attempt to raise much-needed funds for the local cause. The enthusiastic girls and staff wore their best pyjamas and slippers to school, and found a comfortable space to indulge in their favourite books.
Pupils from Years One and Two were challenged to see how many pages they could read in one hour, while Year Three to Six pupils were tasked with one and a half hours, each being paid one pound for every page read.
The school teamed up with the Barnes-based charity to support its mission to inspire a caring community, combating loneliness and social isolation in older and vulnerable people living in their area.
Mrs Ashworth Jones commented: “The girls have put their reading skills to the test to raise essential funds for charity, helping to offer friendship, support and help in our own community.
“We are incredibly proud of our girls for the impressive amount that they have raised and we look forward to continuing to work with the charity in the future.”
