Falcons Mark Remembrance Day

14th November 17

Pupils across the school marked Remembrance Day on Friday 10th November. Our Reception pupils marked the occasion by making a poppy wreath using their hand prints as the leaves which is now hanging on our front door.

Year Six, joined by members of the Chamber Choir, led a Service of Remembrance at St Margaret’s Church in Putney for Years 4 and 5 and their parents. Exploring the history of Remembrance, the girls presented poems by Siegfried Sassoon and songs from the time including “Keep the Home Fires Burning” by Ivor Novello. They have been learning about the First World War in English, History and Drama lessons – improvising scenes from the trenches, listening to memories of relatives of local residents gathered by our charity of the year FiSH, and writing descriptions of life at the Front. All the girls approached the project with touching maturity and some girls have been able to research the war stories of their own family members, “lest we forget”.
